Volleyball General Information

Competition Dates: 7 - 14 May
Competition Venue: Marrara Indoor Stadium, Abala Road, Marrara Sports Complex

Competition Details:

The 2011 Arafura Games Volleyball competition will host an Open Men and Women’s Round Robin tournament targeted at Oceania Youth Development sides. The hugely popular event has most recently seen Macau and Papua New Guinea walk away with the gold.

The competition will be run in a round robin format and teams are encouraged to register early as there is a limited to the number of entries available (and these places filled quickly in 2009).

Eligibility/Entry Standards:

Whilst the event is an Open age tournament, potential teams should be aware the targeted standard of competition is Oceania Youth Development sides.

IMPORTANT: Each team is required to supply a referee with a minimum national grading to assist with officiating throughout the tournament. The competition is also a great opportunity to develop officials. Any teams not able to meet this requirement must contact the Sports Cooordinator as early as possible.

Endorsement:

Countries will be permitted one team from each Region/State/Territory, and all teams must be endorsed by their relevant National Federation. Registration will not be finalised and accepted until endorsement is received. Endorsement information is provided at time of registration and should be gained by the appropriate organisation prior to registering any athletes to ensure there are no delays in the process.

Training Information:

Teams will be allocated training sessions prior to competition commencing. Training at the Games venues will not be possible during the week; however the Coordinator may be able to assist you to source suitable alternate training venues if necessary. Managers Meeting:

A Team Managers Meeting will be held prior to the commencement of competition. All Team Managers are expected to attend this meeting.

Further information will be provided closer to the Games.

Medal Ceremony:

The Medal Ceremony will be conducted on the conclusion of the Men’s Gold Medal Match. Further details will be provided closer to the event. It is expected that all medal winners will be in full team attire in order to receive their medals. The Organising Committee reserves the right to refuse an athlete participation in a ceremony should they not be appropriately attired.
