Triathlon General Information

Competition Dates: Sunday 8 May

Competition Details:

The popular Arafura Games Triathlon returns with gusto in 2011. The Olympic distance event will introduce a Youth Team category in addition to the age categories, allowing the up and coming future triathletes their taste of international competition.

Men and Women’s 16-19, 20-24, 25-34, and 35+ categories will be joined by the 14-19 Youth Team members on the course.

All Australian competitors must be current 2010/2011 Triathlon Australia members.

Cut off times apply and will be enforced. Course closes 3 hours after race start.   All competitors are expected to be on the run course within  2 hours 30 mins of race start.  

IMPORTANT: It will be the dry season and very warm to hot. Sunscreen & hats are recommended. Competitors must carry at least two water bottles on the cycle course. The run leg is well serviced by drink stops. Please hydrate well before the event.

Eligibility/Entry Standards:

All Australian competitors MUST hold 2010/2011 competing membership of Triathlon Australia and produce their TA card on request.

International Athletes must be members of their National Association or provide either race result of ability or letter of endorsement from a qualified triathlon coach certified by an ITU National Association.

A cute off time of 3 hours will be in place.

Age:

All individual competitors will race in the category based on their age as of 31 December 2010.

14-19 Youth Teams Event – Athletes must be born on or after 8 May 1997 and before 31 December 1992 (all team athletes to be a minimum age of 14 years on the date of competition).

Endorsement:

Current Triathlon Australia membership will be endorsement method of Australian competitors. Validity will be checked by Triathlon NT.

International competitors are to provide evidence of endorsement by their National Federation &/or provide documentary evidence of race results demonstrating ability &/or provide endorsement by ITU qualified triathlon coach of their ability. Registration will not be finalised and accepted until endorsement is recieved. Endorsement information is provided at time of registration and should be gained by the appropriate organisation prior to registering any atheletes to ensure there are no delays in the process.

Training Information:

Athletes have the option of several training locations in the lead up to the event. Lake Alexander is open to the public for swimming, and Council run pools are located at Parap, Casuarina and Nightcliff for a minimal cost. Managers Meeting:

Registration and Pre-race Briefing will take place on Saturday 7 May. Time and venue will be confirmed in the near future. It is essential for all competitors/managers to attend this briefing.

Medal Ceremony:

The Medal Ceremony will be conducted on the conclusion of the race. Further details will be provided closer to the event. It is expected that all medal winners will be in full team attire in order to receive their medals. The Organising Committee reserves the right to refuse an athlete participation in a ceremony should they not be appropriately attired.
