Amateur Muaythai is competed over 4 rounds of 2 minutes by both males and females
All athletes must perform the ceremonial dance called the Wai Kru before a bout can be commenced. It displays respect to your teachers and parents
Spectators show their appreciation to the athletes by yelling out the phrase “Oi!” loudly when effective strikes are landed
Scoring is achieved by striking the opponent with the fist, foot, knee and elbow as well as being able to throw your opponent to the ground
Muaythai has many traditions which are still practiced today including that all athletes must enter the ring by going over the top rope, the wearing of the sacred headdress called the Mongkon into the ring and ceremonial tassels around the biceps
Athletes compete in their weight classes which graduate every 3 kilos
